Fall time, kayaking and being in the outdoors

Paddling out of Nimpkish Lake after two days down the river

Another year of Fall time paddling at Strathcona Park Lodge is wrapped up for the COLT program (Canadaian Leadership Training Program).

Excellent times with some higher water levels during the WW kayaking sessions. This meant more time on the Campbell river. One of the aspects that was nice, it gave students a chance to apprecitate the Campbell. It also gave them a chance to pratice moves on familiar whitewater, building their skill base as they progressed.

We spent a number of days on the Campbell .. hoping that a day or two would line up for some paddling on the Gold in Gold River, BC. However with high levels we got in lots of eddy catching, working different skill’s with my co- instructor Ian Odell.

Stoked group of paddlers on the Mighty Campbell river. A little dirty with flow of the Quinsam river coming in.

After we spent time on the campbell we moved up to the Nimpkish river on Vancouver Island North for an over night kayaking/ rafting trip. We had high flows but lots of stoke and managed the water levels well.

We had some high water, a portage, some rainy camping in the woods at Iron Mine Rapids. Excellent company and lots of good soup in the evening as we enjoyed tarp life as the rain came down.

Paddling down to the end of the river we enter Nimpkish lake and take out at a old bit of logging history. The river right take out was a logging town and currently is a hot spot for wind surfing. Amazing views at the beginning of November.
