The Adams River

When you head up the east coast of Vancouver Island, leaving the community of the Comox Valley you pass through the northern edge of Campbell River before heading onwards to Sayward. Then you venture a bit further to reach the Adams River. The Adams river has a few different section’s, this time we decided to run the popular canyon section.

Graham, Miranda and Ryan came up from Victoria, which made for a later start. We spent a bit of time finding the takeout and flagging it. This is because we didn’t want to miss the takeout, downstream there are some large waterfalls that we did not want to go over.

We managed to slide into the water at 3pm, the first bit of the river is fairly wide open, with the river picking up as we approached the canyon. Once into the canyon we ran multiple class 3-3+ rapids for a couple of hours. The level we had made for great boat scouting, we were able to keep things moving along and made good time down to the one harder drop.
After a quick scout we decided to seal launch and run the lower portion of the rapid.

This was another trip in the Jackson Kayak ‘Antix’, The boat was super comfy and very fun to paddle with multiple opportunity’s to boof and splat as we played down the river. Comfortable all day long.

We went on the river when the Salmon river gauge was running at 50cms and would be good probably up to 100cms.

Excellent times with the crew.
