Upper Gordon Creek Race Report

On March 16th the 1st annual Upper Gordon Creek Race was held on the Gordon River, Vancouver Island. A large group of paddlers showed up with people from different parts of the Island, Vancouver, Australia, and Quebec. 17 paddlers participated, making for 8 teams, one of which had three members.

The race started above a rapid called pingpong and finished below Terminator hole. The flows this year were on the high side so some fast times were posted.

1st place @ a blisteringly fast time of 8:02 = Corey May and Geoff Dunbrack

2nd @ 8:15 = Raphaël Boudreault-Simard and Slimmer Michael Reeder

3rd @ 9:02 = Lawrence Brennan and Kiah Schaepe

4th @ 9:18 = Simon Wulffraat and Sam Tregenza

5th @ 10:14 = Samuel Drouin, Connor Oliver-Beebe, and Jason Zrum

6th @ DNF = a three way tie between David Prothero/Matt Lettau, Scott Bell/Ben Davies, and Liam Cook/Chase Chrisfield

An honorable mention as well to Joe Box and Shayne Vollmers who couldn’t stick around for the race proper but did a self timed lap (interrupted by a tupperware party) that took a little over ten minutes (estimated)

The evening was great with a fire in the woods, beer, awards to the top paddlers, a couple of booties drank by the swimmers. The next day we awoke to sunny skies, and plans were made for the next river.

Let the adventure continue.
