A little while back I was able to get out with good friends Heather, Garrett, and Scott on the little Gem of Little Qualicum falls. Nestled near Qualicum Beach and Parksville this section of the river has some fun drops to run. There are some bigger drops that have been run off and on over the years. The Range Life crew set up a roped video system over them one time. They used to be a staple of the sea to sky kayakers heading to the surf in Tofino in years past.
We arrived and hiked with minimal fussing about. Making out a way to the lower spot. We got our boats down to the bottom just above the first 10ft or so drop. After this, there are a few small rapids and boogie to the 2nd drop which is about 15ft. After that there is a wall drop which is an off-camber 8ft or so drops. Then you want to take out before the log jam downstream. River right is a bit easier than river left.
