Rizzanese river, Corsica

Corsica… it sounds fantastic just writing it.

I remembered seeing video of Corsica the first time in a Arnd Schaeftlein film “Mothership Connection”. It stayed with me, off and on I would be thinking of wanting to go to this island off the coast of France and Italy. This year it finally came to fruition, with my friend’s Jakub Drnec and

Scouting Bridge Drop

Family and Tim Starr heading down it was going to be a fun time. It would also be great to connect with some other friends that I hadn’t seen in a number of years.

We were able to hit up a number of different rivers in Corsica, even with the festival being cancelled it was still an amazing and worthwhile trip. One thing that Corsica showed me was how little water you need to get down a river. We hit up the Rizzanese at a low flow, supposed to have 65cm on the gauge as a good flow but we had 58cm. A few cm’s shouldn’t make that much of a difference… or could it.

It was low.. some spots probably beyond low but it was a beautiful place to be with some fun bedrock sections. The bows fired up the bridge drop and Jakub hit up the classic waterfall. Had a lot of fun and only broke one boat… ah Corsica. The unfortunate think is the loss of this river to a hydro project which will be in place next year. Was a good place to see. Check out the video below that was on Kayak Session.
