Rafting the Ganges

North Uttarakhand Whitewater.

The busiest river in India. Without a dought, Over a hundred companies are based around the Rishkiesh area. The river Ganges is very holy, people travel from all over the place to visit, to bath in it’s water, to take pooja’s, and a growing number of people are starting to explore the recreational properties of the Ganges river as well.

Right now the river is running high. The rapids are big and fun. The other day I heard there were over 10 flips of rafts on two of the bigger rapids, Roller Coaster and Golf Course. Love the feeling of pool drop rivers.

Is Outdoor recreation growing in India. More people seem to be doing it and exploring. This year was looking quite good until we had a large number of flooding incidences around Ladakh and Uttarakhand, among other areas.

The Ganges river runs out of the Himilayas, coming from the sites at Gangotri, Badrinath, and Kerdarnath. Then further on at Yamunotri. These are really beautiful spots, hoping to get up to a couple more later this year.

The upper sections of the Ganges are changing at a fast rate with large Hydropower projects being constructed, or have been constructed on the Alaknanda river and the Bhagirathi River. What sort of changes this means for future river runners will remain to be seen.
