Puntledge River Playboating

Tuesday and Friday, the Puntledge river was running. It is a very stellar river located very close to and through downtown Courtenay. Last year we had only a few releases, that were high enough for kayaking, in November. This year a couple in early october, let’s hear it for flood control and good management by BC Hydro. Living in the valley I was glad to have enough time to get out before or after work on the times that the releases happened. A number of paddlers were around and out on the water over the week.

The Puntledge is pretty spectacular with many features coming in with more water. We paddled it from 60cms up to 110cms. On the Vancouver Island Whitewater Paddling Society site we were able to point out some new hazards that have appeared on the river.

Hopefully a few more days this fall. Must by some nose plugs at some point.

Enjoy a few photographs from the Tuesday,
