When I first started paddling in Alberta, came back to BC, and found a copy of ‘Topo Country’. It was on a VHS tape and had sections of rivers in Whistler, the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island all run in Topo Kayaks. Within those sections was Norrish creek. The main part I remember is that it sounded amazing, their were cars and the guy on the screen was dragging a very short creek boat down a snowy track on the opening sequence.
This adventure started after a few texts, checking the level and getting the crew organized. Adam and myself would be joined by Denny, Annie, Tegan, Alison, and David R. It was looking like a beauty day and that the sunshine would last all day. We planned to meet early, due to the fact that I wanted to head back to the Island at a earlier time. Driving up Adam realized he had left his key to the kayak lock back in his pocket, which was a short 15min detour.
The hike into the Norrish is fairly short, can change as in past years there has been road closures. Once into the river there is a short or tall seal launch, then it is on. The river at 3 on the gauge is fun, a bit rocky at point and there are short pools between most rapids. Found it great with the group to have enough time to get a number of photographs on the way down.
Thanks All for a great trip. Look forward to coming back here at some point.
