Last week, I went over to Vancouver to look at kayaks. A couple of weeks ago I had lost my Jackson Kayaks Villain on the Middle Gordon river… it was time to look at some boats. Heading over I knew I wouldn’t make the shop that afternoon, so I managed to head off and meet up with my cousin for dinner and a beverage. This was after a flat tire epesiode on Dewdney Trunk road. It was only a twenty minute stop, however it was nice there were a couple of reflectors to stick down the road, to keep me from getting run over.
The next day I headed out to Abbotsford, a stop to get my tire fixed at Curtis Custom Wheel – great service, before winding my way to Western Canoeing & Kayaking.
I like sitting in kayaks that I am looking at, getting a feel for them, seeing how they fit. I tried sitting in a Mamba 8.6, a Recon 93, and a Jackson Karma. Possibly it was just that I have been paddling a Jackson Villian for the past year and half, but I found the fit of the Karma to be perfect for me. Being 6’2″, 195 and having sz 13 feet it was easy to get into and out of. The comfort level was high, with my shoes on.
After that, I figured on a Rockstar to add to my teaching boat, the 4fun. All set, I picked up the Boat for the Puntledge Festival – a Jackson Villain and it was time to catch a ferry back to the island.
