Memories Of A Rafting Trip – Middle Fork Of The Salmon

Words used to describe the Middle Fork of the Salmon River- Iconic, Beautiful, Amazing, Jaw Dropping, Fantastic. In the summer of 2019, I could hang out with Northwest rafting, not once but twice. First meeting the crew and owner Zachery Collier at an IRF course he was hosting in Hood River with Mark Hirst. Then an opportunity to come on the MFS river to hang out on the sweep boat which then became a chance to row a boat down the river with some extra tents and cots. It was an easy Yes!

At Trail Camp

We put in at Boundary Boat Launch and spent a few days getting down to Indian Creek Launch to meet the clients and pick up more gear.

The group guides working on the trip: classic times and great people to be on the river with.

Rowing ‘Frank’ ahead with the sweep boat, then set up camp before the clients and other guides arrived which involved setting up multiple tents and cots for a comfortable and memorable camping experience. Rowing a bunch of rapids each day as we went down the canyon was a treat.

Frank – my gear boat for the rafting trip
Lads taking in the sunshine and cooling off as it was some hot days on the river
Sweep boat heading through the impassable canyon
Zach took the sweep boat through a rapid on the Impassable Canyon
Camp set up – by this point had the cot/ tent set up dialed.

It was amazing seeing this river system and spending time in this Jewel of the National Wild and Scenic system. Northwest Rafting Co, runs excellent trips and are grand guides to be on the river with.

To the next river trip.

Heading toward the takeout on the Main Salmon
