Lower Browns River

The Browns River.

This morning I woke up and headed off to physio at bodyworks, with a plan to meet Daniel Inskip at the Put in for the lower Browns river at 9:45 . This was my first day with my new boat, the Jackson 4fun. Will be covering more about this boat as time goes along.

The Browns is approximatey a 10min drive from downtown Courtenay. With lots of different sections there is something for everyone. The waterfall and slide section is possible to walk on river right along a trail that goes through the woods.

Island play

The Browns is a great river and this year we have been lucky as we are still paddling it toward’s the end of June. Highly unusual for the Island. With the flow at 15cms it was a nice play level. You can paddle down the river very fast or take your time and play at a few of the spots.

There are a number of small features a couple of slides and one 12ft waterfall to contend with. We ran the falls a couple of times and got some good footage and photos.

This time of year the Puntledge river is dry so we avoided that river with a hike out under the power lines. The trail finding mission took a few minutes, need to put in a marker to make it easier to find. Now it is time to sleep and get ready to go towrk at 7pm tonight. All in all a good day of paddling on Vancouver Island. Have to love the Valley!
