SO it was early March, the river levels were down on Vancouver Island. Paddling wasn’t really happening, but then it was go time for the Gordon event hosted by the UVIC kayak club and you know what? It rained ( insert happy dance). The river went to a nice medium level, threatened to drop out, then came up 3.5ft over night with more rain for a high water race day with sunshine.
It was a very good event with paddlers coming from all over. This was the third year of the event, with a downriver two/three person team event and a slalom event through the main event of the Upper Gordon. Entertainment was provided by Okisollo Sound who had managed to find there way into the woods along the logging roads of the Gordon river.
With the race on and a fair number of people watching from the banks, a good number of volunteers running safety, and it went quite well. The after party was a hit with live music and beer flowing in the woods.
Fantastic time had by all, Look forward to the next year. Huge thanks to all the sponsors.
Enjoy the Pictures,
