Last weekend, with Rapha and Sandy, finally got back down the Cameron River.
The Cameron is located on the backside of Mount Arrowsmith, highest peak east of Port Alberni. In traditional indigenous language kał-ka-č’ałḥ (Kulth-ka-choolth) meaning Jagged Points Facing Upward in the Tseshaht Nuu-chah-nulth.
It is a fantastic river that is stacked full of small drops in amongst canyon walls. The flow was on the lower end but still much joy was had as we slid and boofed (check out this site for boofing education) down the river.
Had a great run except for one swim after the main canyon section. Need to review my roll in the Dagger Indra. Fortunately got hung up and all my stuff stayed together. Was quickly sorted after Rapha grabbed my boat, threw my dry bag and paddle to Sandy then swam off my rock. Reunited with my boat, it was time to get back on the river for more drops and chutes.
Big thanks to the lads for the day. Support by Western Canoe and Kayak and NRS,
