Fall time arrives on Vancouver Island and with it the job teaching for the Canadian Outdoor Leadership Training Program. I get to spend 9 days with co-instructor Laurel Archer on rivers of the north island with 10 students. Just about to head up for the last six days of instruction during which the students participate and lead on a multi day whitewater trip. The weather is looking pretty premium at the moment. See what the weather gods bring us.
We were lucky to get a bit of time on the Lower Gold river canyon during the first part of the Whitewater kayaking segment. The fall colours were just starting to come out and the salmon were out in great numbers on the Gold river. Due to this fact we were able to see a few bears during our time on the water.
The Lower gold has some great training sections with good eddy lines and some excellent jets of current even at flows down to 9-10cms.
Look forward to the next little bit of boating.
See you on the water.
