For a while now, I have been using an NRS Expedition DriDuffel dry bag in Citrus. It has accompanied me on my raft and several days of kayaking.
So what kind of things would I carry? Well, the first thing is snacks… I love having some food with me on the river, whether homemade food or bars.
Next up is a first aid kit, covering different injuries, want to be able to help someone if they get hurt.
A headlamp is great, especially in the late fall and winter as we tend to paddle toward dark with the shorter days.
I got introduced to Rocky Talkies a little while ago and bring them on most trips. They are super handy for rafting, kayaking, biking, and road trips. Have found their range to be great. Small and Compact however very robust and great for communication on the river or in the shuttle vehicle.
A little while back we used them to communicate with Heather Quinn, who was flying a drone as Garrett and I kayaked down the Cameron River.
Some of the places we go kayaking have limited mobile phone coverage – so a satellite comm device is very handy. Currently using an InReach Explorer + for comms on kayaking trips, biking trips, and multi-day rafting trips.
Another item I keep in the dry bag is a toque for once I’m off the river/ hot packs can also be a good idea as well as a fire-starting kit.
Safe paddling and see you on the river.
