Cameron river in December

With the VIWPS FB group going well it is getting easier to find people to paddle most days of the week. This time Danny had checked out the gauge at the Cameron river, one of Vancouver Island’s classic section. With it at 5.5 we would be able to catch it the next day at around 5. A good level for a group running it for the first time. Because of a bit of a mix up of gear…. (me, forgetting my pfd) and Ian loaning me his, it ended up being 4 of us on the run. Ken, Graham, Dan and myself hit the water at just around 5. The weather was a bit brisk, fresh snow was on the hills and we figured on taking a bit of time since it hadn’t been paddled since the last big water came through.

The run went quite well, and surprisingly had cleaned completely up with no logs anywhere along the run. This could change at any time as there were a couple spots that would could fall in during the next wind event. Everyone had good lines. Great to get another run in on this classic river.
