April 11 -13th youth and adult volunteers descended on the Cowichan Valley for the Cowichan River Youth Kayak Festival (CRYKF). This involves a pool session and two days of paddling on the Cowichan River. Youth came from as far away as Quesnel and Williams lake, The Lower mainland, South Island Whitewater Club, Brentwood school, ROAMS (rivers oceans and mountains school) out of Qualicum, and Shawnigan Lake School. The Volunteers came from all over the island and the mainland to support the youth, with almost 50 youth and close to 30 vollys it was a good group of people. Its a great festival to catch up with friends and see the next generation of paddlers get some days in boats. This year it was great to have some previous youth come back as Adult volunteers.
