Each year in May and June, also in October and November, I spend a number of days with my co-instuctor, Laurel Archer teaching the COLT students WW kayaking.
With the lower water levels this year we looked at some different options around the Gold river and were able to come up with some great spots to teach. We spent a number of days on the Gold river working on eddy turns, ferries, jet ferries, catching eddies, rolling, t-rescues and how to move down the river among other skills. The weather was very warm for that time of year and dry.
Tomorrow we head off for the WW3 trip which is on the Nimpkish river on the Northern part of Vancouver Island. A true gem of a river, I always enjoy taking the students up here. Travelling through a varied valley with beautiful stands of forest, white canyons, a variety of rapids. It is a great way to spend some time out in the outdoors.
Enjoy these photos from the Gold River,
