Clearwater River Is Amazing – Five Days In Paradise

Author hanging out on the Clearwater – enjoying the New NRS Vector PFD

Arriving at the Clearwater River was grand. Warm water playboating for the next five days. Set up camp at the Provincial North Thompson site, which involved a Tarp, Kammock collapsable hammock stand, and a tent. It also involved a trip to Home Hardware to get some wasp traps. There were many Western Yellow Jackets, apparently, it was a bad year for them.

Wasps were collecting in one of the two traps.

The next few days involved a whole bunch of paddling. With a variety of people, ended up paddling the lower section of the Clearwater about 9 times. There was also time to go for a few hikes and check out the local brew tap house https://hopnhog.ca/ for a tasty meal.

Having been to the Clearwater a couple of times in the past, one of the things I hadn’t done was drive up the Clearwater Valley Road. This takes you past multiple waterfalls including up to the 4th highest in Canada, Helmcken Falls. Jody and I hiked into this and Moul falls on a couple of side trips.

Pictures above are of Third Canyon Falls, An Aphrodite Fritillary Butterfly, and a variety of angles of Moul Falls (115ft).

Friends running the Wall Rapid. Some excellent surfing at Tsunami Rapid.

My favorite times on the river were running different lines on the fingers, having a friend bring his son out in the Duo, surfing so many waves, and A couple of really fun rides on Buckaroo. Paddling and seeing so many people out enjoying the river, as that weekend was the Clearwater Paddling Festival

At the end of the week it was time for a quick am lap, then load up the Jeep and head back to Vancouver Island. Yeah paddling, great times at the Clearwater.
