A Throwback Post – Chilko-Chilcotin

Last fall I went down the Chilko and Chilcotin as part of a 14 day expedition which ended in Yale with Big Canyon Rafting, Canadian River Expeditions and Fraser River Rafting. The 7 days on the river From Chilko Lake, (Largest, natural, high elevation fresh water lake in North America), down to Churn Creek were amazing. Unfortunately I didnt have enough time to make the Fraser river section. During this time we had spectacular weather and good levels.

Rafting from Chilko Lake we rafted through Bidwell canyon and down the White Mile, truly spectacular whitewater. With some beautiful campsites, good people, campfires, excellent food.

From below the junction with the Taseko river we travelled down through historic landscapes of Hanceville, (home of Norman Lee’s Original Ranch), Bull Canyon and Battle Rock. We stop at Big Creek to refresh and wander some of this marvelous countryside for a day before continuing down toward Farwell canyon and Big John Canyon before joining the Mighty Fraser River.

At the Mighty Fraser we transfer from oar assisted rafts to the Motor rafts of Fraser River Rafting for the remainder of the Journey. Tyler, Royce and Myself head back with the rafts to Quesnel as the rest of the group continues. Quite an amazing adventure in this area of BC. Make sure to put it on your list Check out the link here to get on this amazing adventure.
