Over the years I have had the privilege of sharing the joy of ww kayaking and rivers with students from around Canada and the world. Some have continued in the sport of Whitewater Kayaking and others have pursued other endeavours in the outdoors and elsewhere. It has been quite the experience showing rivers to these groups of adults, seeing them progress and grow as kayakers.
Usually starting on the Gold River or the Campbell River over the first number of days. The students finish up on the Nimpkish river (sometimes) for their final WW trip during the COLT program. The Nimpkish is the longest river on the Island, rising on the west slope of Mount Alston, flowing northwest into Nimpkish Lake and then north into the Broughton Strait at a point 8 km east of Port McNeill, just southwest of the town of Alert Bay on Cormorant Island.
It makes for a neat place to paddle and explore the north island as we have tried different side trips over the years depending on levels. One of the main side trips we do is to the Woss General store. This is a fun location for a group photo, love the character of the store and the exterior.
